Devilbend UpdateDear Members, Plenty of work progressing around the club at the moment with the cart storage shed beginning construction, course drainage being completed, a New front gate being installed, and our new couch turf nursery starting construction with the removal of a number of pine trees in the top paddock. The Cart shed will house our new expanded fleet of carts which are due to arrive in late June. A small number of additional spots will be available for private cart owners. Our annual drainage works continue with the club allocating extra money to continually improve our playability during the colder months. the current works concentrated on the bottom of the 9th fairway, the top of the 2nd fairway, and on top of the rise on the 10th fairway. We will continue to target areas that traditionally get a little wet and endeavor to give all our members and guests the best playing surface we can produce. A special thank you to Laurie Collard, Dave Riddell, and Peter Eaton for giving up their time to come along and give us a hand. The new front gate will not only significantly improve the aesthetics of our club upon arrival but it will also upgrade the security with the gate being automated and camera's being installed. Finally, the committee has given the go-ahead to construct a couch turf nursery in the paddock adjacent to the 11th hole. The nursery will give us 8000 square metres of turf to use on different projects around the course including improvements to all our tee decks and surrounds of a number of greens. The construction of the turf nursery comes at a cost of 30k but the long-term saving to the club will be significant and it will also stop us from having to harvest turf off the course such as the 4th fairway as we did for the 3rd green. To give you an indication of savings a Square metre of turf currently costs just over $9. We would use around 500 square metres for tees and 2000 square meters for a greens surrounds. So ultimately our nursery will give us over $70,000 worth of turf.
